FAQs

Need more information or have a question you need answering? Take a look at the questions we are commonly asked.
  • What towns and cities do you cover?

From our base in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, we work with clients throughout Scotland.

  • How do you design your bespoke automatic door installations?

Once you get in touch with us as Shopfronts Scotland, we will arrange a convenient time for one of our design team to visit the property where the door will be fitted. We measure for the door as well as discuss all the available options, such as a sliding door or a low-energy push door.

  • What about warranties for the doors you install?

We offer a full 12-month warranty. After this time, we highly recommend you talk to us about service and maintenance cover. Regular maintenance visits mean that your automatic doors work smoothly and with a reduced chance of malfunctioning. Get in touch with us to find out more.

  • How can automatic doors help with the Disability Discrimination Act and access?

Automatic doors help to ensure your legal responsibility to provide access for anyone to your business premises. We have a range of automatic door installations that ensure your compliance.

  • What types of doors do you install?

We provide a range of automatic door installation including swing doors and sliding door systems, as well as bi-folding and telescopic doors. The right type of automatic door depends on the space you have to accommodate the automatic door, your footfall and your budget. Our team will be happy to help – just give us a call on 01698 678 995.

  • How do I know my automatic doors will be safe?

Your automatic doors will comply with current health and safety requirements as well as other standards for automatic door operation.

  • Do you provide emergency cover?

We can provide emergency cover for when emergencies happen. Priority is assigned to those calls when there is a security issue, arriving on site within a four-hour timeframe. For minor faults, we aim to attend within the working week.

Automatic doors are incredibly secure, and with double glazed units and high-quality, robust components, they are difficult to break.

  • Do I have to buy new doors?

It may be possible to add an automatic opening and closing mechanism to manual doors, although once you do this, these doors are governed by the same strict health and safety requirements of automatic doors, for example: no-crush zones and so on.

New automatic doors add considerable aesthetic appeal as well as convenience to your business, and with our prices being competitive, you will get far more than you imagined.

  • What about electrical requirements?

There needs to be an electrical point or spur within a metre of the door. This is a standard 13amp connection.

Access control systems

  • What is keypad entry?

To gain access to a room, the user will need to input the correct number into the keypad along with the pre-set star or hash key. The keypad is programmed to accept either a four-digit or six-digit code.

  • What is a key fob?

These are small fobs pre-programmed with the correct code which, when they come into contact with the keypad reader, will unlock the door. A swipe card operates in much the same way.

  • What about fingerprint entry?

Quick and easy: to gain access, the reader in the mechanism on the door reads the fingerprint of a user, which will have been programmed into the unit. Great for when you have concerns about fobs being lost or you want to monitor who is coming and going in any area.

  • What if there is a power cut – can we still use the system?

We understand this is a concern and for the mains powered access control system, we can add in a number of options should this happen. In most cases, a battery back up with more than eight hours of life is more than enough to see you through a power cut.

  • What about other quick exit or access options?

    We offer a range of additional solutions, such as;

Maglock – this is when a magnet is used to keep a door securely locked. A huge amount of pressure is needed to disconnect the powered magnet from the strike place.

Sheer lock – a variation of the mag lock, this is fitted to the head of the door. It too is an ideal choice where additional security is needed.

Strike lock – looking similar to an ordinary lock; it is simple and easy to use. The difference is that with power running to it, there is less force needed to open it but a lot more pressure required to break in when it is in use.

Electric panic bar – much like a standard panic bar on a fire exit door, except when you push against the electronic panic bar, the movement is quicker and easier, requiring much less pressure. They can also be used as access doors when used with a keypad, fob or swipe reader.

AUTOMATIC DOOR MAINTENANCE

  • Who should have an automatic door maintenance contract?

We suggest that anyone who operates an automatic door used by staff and/or members of the public have an automatic door maintenance package in place. This is critical for keeping things running smoothly.

  • Why are automatic door maintenance and service contracts recommended?

Should anyone be injured whilst using the automatic door, if you cannot demonstrate the automatic door was maintained and serviced to a high standard, you may find that you are liable for personal injury compensation, the levels of which can be high. You could also face investigation and action by the Health and Safety Executive too.

  • How do your maintenance services work?

As per your agreed contract, for an annual or monthly payment, we will attend your property several times a year (depending on the contract) to service and maintain your automatic doors. We can also attend in an emergency too.

  • What does the maintenance visit include?

We perform a series of checks on every aspect of the door, including motors and electrical components. We will, where possible, attend your business at a time that is convenient so that we get to test the full range of the door mechanism.

Once complete, we provide you with a comprehensive report, listing issues in priority order. We can then make arrangements to repair the doors if needed.

  • How can I find out more?
